Happy #FLASHBACK Friday, y’all! 😀
I’m takin’ it back to our honeymoon today to talk about EXUMA – just in case any of you are starting to plan your summer getaways, or looking for the perfect honeymoon spot. I actually had never heard of Exuma and had no clue where it even was before last year. I just so happened to come across an Instagram picture or something online featuring THE SWIMMING PIGS when we were trying to pick our honeymoon spot, and I had a hard time wanting to go anywhere but there. I’m so glad we did because it was incredible!
It was only a 2 hour flight to Miami from San Antonio, and then an hour to Exuma, so the travel time wasn’t bad at all. My in-laws got us a condo at The Grand Isle Resort, and it was beautiful. If you watch The Bachelor, it was the same condos that were featured on the show! It was pretty fun reliving the experience watching that episode, but I promise, the pigs aren’t as vicious as they seemed (lol!). You also get your very own mini garage with a golf cart to drive around the resort and the area. The resort is gorgeous and right on the beach, and the staff couldn’t have been any nicer. The only downside is that it isn’t all-inclusive, but you do have a full service kitchen if you want to drive into town for some groceries, or eat at the restaurants nearby. What we really liked about Exuma was how “non-touristy” (if that even makes sense) it was. You really can experience how the people of Exuma live because you’re free to come and go from the resort and into town. There’s not a sense of danger, and the locals are so welcoming. Normally, even when you say you’re taking a “vacation,” it’s not always that because you’re so busy doing things at your destination. Exuma was great because it wasn’t overbearing with attractions and excursions, so there was a lot more time for relaxation. In fact, we were there for a week, and in one day, we swam with the pigs, spent some time on lizard island, snorkeled in thunderball grotto, did some sight-seeing and more. If you go, be sure to check out Four C’s Adventures to book your water excursions, and do the full day because it’s worth it! Swimming with the pigs was definitely an experience to remember, and they’re too cute to not go visit. I could’ve spent all day there! Another fun day spent was at Chat ‘N’ Chill which is a bar/restaurant that you can only get to by boat, and they have fun activities to enjoy there as well. You can make a day out of it! There’s SO much to love about Exuma from the turquoise waters to the pink pigs, so if you’re trying to decide on a summer trip this year – consider this one! Kalep decided he wants to make that our annual trip (lol).
Have a good weekend friends! 😀
