Pregnancy is such a beautiful experience and it’s been such an amazing time for me these last few months of carrying our baby. It’s such a neat thing to know you have been growing a little person in there, and even though we haven’t met her, she’s brought SO much joy to our lives already. Even though I’ve loved pregnancy, we’re getting closer and closer to meeting her – pretty much any day now and I am beyond ready! Although pregnancy is many wonderful things, there’s also so many (not so wonderful) things about it. There are so many changes that your body goes through especially towards the end of pregnancy. You are so uncomfortable and for me, sleep is a long forgotten thing because I hardly get any! It gets harder and harder to fit into any of your clothes, and you basically just want to spend your days in a comfy robe or sweatpants. It’s hard to even want to get dressed, much less do your make up and hair. I’m looking forward to the little things post delivery like sleeping on my stomach or having myself a huge cup of coffee! Sometimes you just have to treat yourself and us as women definitely deserve it after that! Here’s a few ideas to take time for yourself and enjoy the little things post partum!
1. GET A MASSAGE
I’ve been told by some friends that pregnancy massages are the best and help you relax, but for one reason or another, I can’t ever seem to get around to it, so I guess I’ll have to save that for post delivery. It’ll be so nice to take time for yourself and have a few moments of peace even if it’s just for 30 min to an hour!
2. REPLENISH YOUR WORKOUT ATTIRE
I definitely did not workout as much as I should’ve throughout my pregnancy besides doing a lot of walking. I’m looking forward to being able to workout again and try to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and get to wear my clothes again. Although I know I’ll have a bit of a hard time getting motivated, so new work out clothes or shoes always do the trick!
I stopped buying new things a couple of weeks ago because I had been buying oversized things and clothes that fit my bump, but now it’s pointless to do so since we’re so close to our delivery day! I realize you don’t just snap back to pre-baby weight but I am looking forward to being able to buy a normal pair of jeans without a belly band or sized up clothing to fit.
4. THROW OUT YOUR GRANNY PANTIES
I always love having cute undergarments even though nobody sees them. It just helps me feel more put together and feel better. Let’s be real though – during pregnancy, you can say goodbye to that. Comfort becomes priority and the pretty and lacy things become a thing of the past. I’ve been told that big “granny panties” are a must have in your hospital bag because you don’t want to ruin anything pretty and that’s basically just a necessity postpartum. It’ll be nice to get back to the cute things when it’s time and one way to do so is by signing up for a monthly subscription with Underclub. It’s a curated selection of designer underwear service delivered to your door monthly, You can cancel anytime. It’s like a little gift to yourself every month with luxurious designer underwear and right now they’re soft launching a new $12.95 subscription line and you can get exclusive access when you subscribe this month here!. It’s the little things!
5. HELLO COFFEE!
Coffee was definitely the hardest thing to give up (not completely), but I definitely had to cut back from having 1-2 cups a day or having a grande iced caramel macchiato from Starbucks. I’m also someone that loves a huge glass of iced sweet tea, so I can’t wait to be able to treat myself without any guilt.
6. FINALLY, DON’T RUSH BACK TO YOUR “NORMAL” LIFE.
I’m somebody who loves to stay busy and always be doing something. Kalep gets annoyed with me sometimes because he just wants to sit on the couch and do nothing but Netflix, and I can only sit through an episode or two. I kept putting off the date that I would start my “official break” from doing sugar cookies and from my invitation business until finally, I had to this week because baby will be here any day now. These last few days have been so nice though to not have any thing on my planner and not have something on my mind that just has to get done. It’s nice to take time to relax and just “do nothing.” This is a time when life slows down and it’s okay to take time to lounge around the house especially when baby is here. Soak up the hours with your baby and your husband (and friends & family that visit) and don’t feel guilty! The busy-ness will come soon enough, and I think every one deserves a break every now and then. I’m so glad it worked out that baby will be here during the fall/winter. It’s such a cozy time especially with the holidays around the corner. I know I’ll definitely be watching LOTS of Christmas movies, so don’t be afraid to step back and RELAX!
TREAT OTHER “MOMS TO BE”, BRIDESMAIDS & FRIENDS
Baskets are one of my favorite gifts to give. My best friend and I always joke about it because for every little occasion we have for each other, friends, or family – our go-to is to put together a basket of goodies. I also love receiving them as much as I love giving them. A lot of times they’re full of things you actually need that you never think to go and pick up yourself. A subscription to Underclub would be a great gift to include in a basket that continues to keep giving, or even introduce to a friend to. It would be the perfect addition to a “mom to be” hospital or post partum basket. Also, perfect for a bridesmaid gift for a bachelorette party or the day before the wedding! I’ve put together a list of other ideas to include in each basket below!
• Chapstick or lip balm (Aquaphor Healing Ointment was recommended to me by my dermatologist for lips & it is THE BEST!)
• Hairspray, hair ties, dry shampoo, etc.
• Bust, Nipple & Stretch Mark Cream
• Hand Sanitizer
• Perfume or Body Spray
• Magazines or Books
• Gift Cards
• Fuzzy Socks (with grips)
• Chocolate & Snacks
• Nursing Pads
• Make-up Wipes
• Nail Polish
• Personalized items like a koozie, a tote bag, necklace, etc.
• Earrings or jewelry for your special day
• Wine or Champagne Bottle (& a hangover kit for a bachelorette;))
• Chocolates & other sweet treats
• Coffee Mug
Hope you enjoy!
